I have taken this writing class because I want to improve my English skills for my carrer goal of teaching English at high school.
Today English is spoken all over the world and has become more and more important. Thus the ability to communicate in English will make our lives better.
When I was a high school student, English was not my favorite subject. All we did in class were translation and writing. In addition, I had to memorize a lot of words and it was a bit difficult for me. Naturally I could not enjoy studying English. However, one experience last year changed my attitude toward English. It was a seminar I joined and I went to Indonesia to meet the students there. During the seminar, both Japanese and Indonesian students had to commnicate in English.
At first I was really nervous about speaking English, however, the situation was more terrible than I have expected. At very first night, I had to stay with only an Indonesian participant. There is no Japanese around me!!!! I have never experienced such a situation. What should I do? Being with her in the room, I asked myseld many times ‘ What should I talk about?’. I smiled to her and she did to me. What can I do? I was so confused, but then, suddenly I hit on a wonderful idea!!! I put out my cell phone from my bag and said to her ‘I have some picture of Sakura in it.’ As I expected she got interested in that! She stared the pictures and said ‘ I have wanted to see real Sakura!’. ‘ You should come to Japan!’ ‘ya, I want!!’. Before I knew it, I communicated in English with a foreign friend! After that, it was not long before I found using the language was a lot of fun. After the seminar, my perspective of English has changed drastically.
It used to be just a subject of study, but I have realized that it is a living language as a tool of communication in a real world.
Limited proficiency as my English may have been, I could ask Indonesian students about many things to learn a lot of new things. I realized how important and wonderful it is to use English.
So if I become a teacher I want to tell of this experience of mine to my future students so that they too can realize how exciting it is to use English in international communication as well as how important it is to study cross cultures with other countries in the world.

I have briefly read your post and realized that you have put very good and lively sentences to describe how you were nervous and yet excited to speak English in the seminar. Well done. We shall examine in detail in class.
